Barcelona’s talisman Lionel Messi has revealed why he doesn’t want to sing his country’s national anthem. In an exclusive interview, the Argentinian said he doesn’t want to sing the national anthem on purpose.
“I do not sing the anthem on purpose,” Messi said.“It reaches me, every person feels it in their own way. The Pumas cry, they feel it differently, and that’s ok.
“I play with the national team always as a priority and I want to win everything I play.”
The 28-year-old has insisted that, although he appreciates Argentina’s national song, he does not need to sing it in order to know what it means for himself and his teammates.

The diminutive footballer said he doesn’t need to sing a national anthem to feel it or understand its meaning. He even vowed not sing the national anthem.
“I won’t sing the national anthem on purpose. I don’t need to sing it to feel it,” he continued.
The 2015 Ballon’Dor Nominee said even if he doesn’t sing the national anthem it doesn’t translate into the dry spell the national team has been facing. Messi, who is the Albiceleste’s captain, led his country to the FIFA World Cup final in 2014 and the Copa America decider earlier this year, but lost out on both occasions.
The forward has often been criticized for his performances for Argentina, with many believing he does not put in as much effort for the national team as he does when he plays for Barcelona.
