Idols South Africa a mimic of American Idol has attracted controversy after firing a contestant for allegedly flouting the reality show’s rules – this comes in the backdrop of ongoing disputes to rock the reality show.

According to the show’s media, Siyakha Tshayela, a budding singer has been with immediate effect withdrawn from the M-Net reality show on its Mzansi Magic (DStv 161) channel on DStv.

American Idol is an American singing competition television series created by Simon Fuller, produced by FremantleMedia North America and 19 Entertainment, according to online sources.

It is distributed by FremantleMedia North America – and began airing on Fox on June 11, 2002, and ended on April 7, 2016.

Tshayela aged 23 is a musician hailing from East Rand – and was in the last 16 of the show’s running 12th season.

She claims she informed Idols producers of her discussions with an independent record label before enrolling for the contest.

The singer informed Idols producers that she had discussions with an independent record label before she entered Idols.

This has come back to haunt her.

"Siyakha Tshayela has been withdrawn from the 2016 season of Idols with effect from 15 September as a result of a dispute between herself and an independent recording company," says Idols.

"Participants are required to sign an exclusive recording deal with the Idols appointed recording label when they enter the series."

Gareth Cliff became a causality of M-Net after a disturbing social media comment.

Here are five prominent SA Idols controversies.

Winning on bribe

The very first controversy unfolded immediately following the finale of season 1, when Winkler was crowned the winner, beating running up Brandon October.

It’s understandable, considering October was far more vocally-apt than the lifeless, Ronan Keating-like Heinz, whose only dance move was blinking. Heinz’s victory became the subject of constant rumours, in which race and privilege were named factors that contributed to his win.

Muslim Council boycotts duo

Who remembers the duo, Nazneen Leeman and Wafeeq Saffodien, the talented cousins from Cape Town who entered the second season of the show?

Anyway, they joined fellow contestants, Anke Pietrangeli (that season’s winner or Kimberly’s Diamond if you will), Poseletso Sejosingoe, Zama Sithole, and Jacques Terre’Blanche amongst others in the top 10 before being ousted together during the Top 8 results show.

A week prior to their coincidental elimination from the show, an email in which elderly members of the Muslim council pleaded with muslims across the country to boycott the singing duo began to circulate.

They stated that the pair were partaking in a show the Islamic community saw as haraam (forbidden) because of “the nakedness and indecent exposure of the participants.

The immoral lyrics of songs and the use of venues such as casinos, rave clubs, dance arenas,” Sheik Ihsaan Hendricks, then president of the Muslim Judicial Council was reported as saying. - Additional Reporting Online Sources
