Many mourners came to pay their respects to the family of the late Mandoza.

Mduduzi Tshabalala, known as Mandoza (38), died yesterday after a long battle with cancer.

Doc Shebezela, who was among those who came to offer their condolences to the family, said it was such a sad day for South Africa.

He went on to say that they were there to support the family in any way they could.

When asked what they had learnt from Mandoza, Shebezela said he was a hustler, a go-getter and he believed himself.

He said they needed to keep his legacy going – not look at the negatives. Eugene Mthethwa said Mandoza was one of the best artists Mzansi had ever had.

He told the media that when he last spoke to Mandoza he had told him that he was due for another check-up on Wednesday and he was looking forward to his treatment.

Eugene’s saddest memory of Mandoza was when he requested to perform at the Thank You SABC Concert held at the Orlando Stadium.

“We granted him his last wish,” he added. “I’ll best remember Mandoza for his first performance in a concert in Pretoria when he was still a member of the Chiskop group.”

He said Mandoza had great talent and he was the only artist who could bring the nation together and have all races dancing on the same dance floor. - Daily Sun
