Chitungwiza – Two decades earlier, a prophecy said an Evangelist would preach the gospel from Cape to Cairo – many have come, but the influence Ghanaian Evangelist Dag Heward-Mills has made globally, has persuaded Bishop Pindurai that the previous prediction is coming to pass.

With his God-commissioned Healing Jesus Campaign contingent of fulltime ministers, 10 000 chairs, 10 buses and trucks, the popular Evangelist has journeyed many African states. To date, they did over 132 campaigns worldwide, now it was Zimbabwe’s turn.

After concluding crusades in South Africa, they packed for Namibia, but God diverted them towards Zimbabwe. With 14 scheduled crusades, Chitungwiza was not originally on the list, but grace overturned events, and for two memorable nights, the town swam in Jesus’s blood.

Afraid to miss the action, I reached the venue at 17:30. Hordes of volunteers from various churches aided keen multitudes. Seating conveniently and direct to the epic stage, I was ready for action. The bright lights gave vibrancy to an expectant night.

At 20:25, Dag Heward-Mills was on stage. His meekness is extraordinary, yet his popularity is celebrated. Many including myself knew the preacher via media, but on 30 November, 2016, our dreams became reality.

“If you had not welcomed us, we could not have come. We thank the government for allowing us to preach everywhere. Pastors, you can use my books for reference, just like we use the bible written many years ago,” announced the prolific author.

His message to over 10 000 souls was simple yet adamant.

“My message is: Jesus the Healer. I am here to talk about Jesus who heals the sickness of the soul. There are things we instinctively. Tonight, Jesus has come to heal us from our sins and its effects. Our problems are caused by our sins. If you die with your sins, you will go to hell.”

Dag Heward-Mills’s animated, spirited preaching sent me into deep meditation.

“Everybody has bags of sins,” he demonstrated, holding two handbags, “But Jesus has come to wash away our sins. He died for your salvation. He is here to cleanse you from evil spirits. The devil comes through eyes, nose, ears, mouth and the rear.”

I had attended diverse crusades previously, but this instance was a total package. It was comical, energetic, intense, and most of all revealed Jesus’s healing power. People on pews rose to receive Jesus, as the medical doctor-cum preacher prayed for deliverance.

Thereafter, the healed presented moving testimonies.

An elderly woman was wheelchair-bound for 15 years. She was promptly cured. In jubilation, she danced for her miracle. A lady paralysed for three weeks rose and walked, to the amasement of doctors present. After physicians confirmed blindness from glaucoma, a man had lost both hope and eyesight. But Jesus remembered him, instantly restoring his sight.

As I departed, Dag Heward-Mills’s counsel not to mix God with other religions was eloquent, knowing the prevalence of dubious religious sects always sprouting in Chitungwiza.
