Some women of her age are now grandmothers, but Thembisile Ntaka is 52 years old and a proud virgin.

The proud South African lady even spoke of her purity in public.

“Even at my age, I still go to Umkhosi woMhlanga (virginity test),” said Thembisile at a social cohesion dialogue about virginity, according to the Daily Sun.

The event was organised by eThekwini Municipality at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban recently.
Virgin Test is Common in Many Africa Countries

“I began this journey when I was 14 years old. I get a lot of people criticising me for being a virgin and not having children. Some even tell me I will die a lonely woman. But that does not make me want to change my life,” she added.

Thembisile claims she has never slept with a man or even kissed one. She is highly respected in her area, Botha’s Hill.

She encouraged young women to follow her footsteps.

“I’m the lastborn at home. My eight siblings got married and left me with my brother’s two children.”

When she was young, she heard bad things her brothers’ friends after intercourse with their girlfriends.

“I decided then I didn’t want to be one of those girls,” she said. She said each time there is virginity testing in her area; she is always the first one in line. I don’t care if I die without children or a husband. I’m happy with my life and so is my family.”

“Staying a virgin helps to avoid infections and disease,” said tester Zanele Shezi-Sishi.

A virginity test is the practice and process of determining whether a person, usually a girl or woman, is a virgin; i.e., whether she has never engaged in sexual intercourse.

The test typically involves a check for the presence of an intact hymen, on the assumption that it can only be torn as a result of sexual intercourse.

Virginity testing is widely considered controversial, both because of its implications for the tested girls and women and because it is viewed as unethical.

In cases of suspected rape or child sexual abuse, a detailed examination of the hymen may be performed, but the condition of the hymen alone is often inconclusive. – Daily Sun
