Harare – Once bitten twice shy – this is an adage that practically applies to one popular jazz artiste and prolific music producer.

Once known as ‘Mono’ within the music circles, Clive Mukundu reveals that most musicians have a common ‘weakness’ of womising, hence they neglect their health, opting to squander their gains.
“Musicians are travellers and always on the road, and most of the time they are away from their wives. But if you check most late musicians in the country they did not die of accidents but STDs,” revealed Mono.
Mono who is a born again Christians adds that most performers believe they will remain at the echelons of their career forever.
“When everything is your way in showbiz, sometimes it seems like you will remain on top forever. You will see women falling for you and you brag thinking you are the best thing ever to happen to women and music.”
Roadshows can be a great challenge for many, the producer mentions.
“Having nearly 200 shows a year that can mean bonking considerable number of women as well. And the musician can one day be found wanting without protection,” he stated
The veteran guitarist warned of women he labeled as ‘Groupies’, who aim is to plunder wealth and bed every celebrity.
“The Groupies sometimes they don’t need your money but target musicians after every show for se_x. Some brag that they bonked nearly all bassists, drummers, lead guitarists of all bands in the country,” revealed the well-travelled performer.
Even women on medication do not divulge their status at the expense of the artiste.
“If you ask bar men and ladies they will tell you this whole story because they have seen many musicians being victims. Some of these women will be on medication, but very beautiful and attractive that no simply band member can resist such as woman.”
Sadly, many die paupers with their families living as beggars.
“Instead of concentrating on buying expensive and lovely things for show off, every time you go on tour buy essential things as well as save. Romance among band members should never happen, never do it because if you have a fight this affects the smooth running of the band,” warns Mukundu.
John Chibadura, a celebrated sungura player during his heydays died a lonely death and was accorded a pauper’s burial after he sold his house. Sadly, he is not the only victim.
