Musa Nyatama: “I am a Grown Man, Ready for the Pressure at Pirates”

Musa Nyatama is on cloud nine after completing his move from Bloemfontein Celtic to Orlando Pirates, this comes after a failed stint in 2010 when he was signed by Mamelodi Sundowns, preceded by a successful spell at Maritzburg United.

Unfortunately he couldn’t make the grade at Sundowns and was loaned back to the Team of Choice. Between 2013 and 2015 he was loaned to Celtic, who signed Nyatama on a permanent basis when his contract with Sundowns expired in 2015.

The defensive midfielder signed a three-year contract with the Buccaneers yesterday after almost five years at Celtic.

Said Nyatama: “I’ve worked hard the past few years and feel I deserve a move this big. Joining a big team like Pirates is every player’s dream – I’m no different. I’m happy the day has finally come.”

The 29-year-old is no stranger to such a big move, however. In 2010 he was signed by Mamelodi Sundowns after having the time of his life at Maritzburg United.

The player said his short stint at Sundowns taught him a lot. He has matured and now understands the pressure that comes with playing for a big team.

“I was still young back then and didn’t know the pressure that comes with wearing the jersey of a big club. I know Sundowns and Pirates are different and I can’t compare the two. But the pressure of playing for them is similar.

“Fortunately I have learned from my experience at Sundowns. I’m a grown man now and I’m ready for the pressure that will come with wearing a Pirates jersey,” said Nyatama.

He made his Absa Premiership debut back in 2008 for Thanda Royal Zulu, which had players such as Bernard Parker, Tsepo Masilela, July Mahlangu, Katlego Loke and Tshepo Mashishi.

When Thanda got relegated in 2009, Maritzburg United were quick to snatch him up and he became a star player for them, helping in defence and also assisting with goal-scoring.

He joins former Downs teammates Thamsanqa Sangweni and Wayne Sandilands at Bucs. Bucs have also signed Nigerian striker Christian Obiozor. - Online Sources
