Steve Komphela: 'We want to Uphold Kaizer Chiefs Winning Culture'

Johannesburg – Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela is expecting a tightly contested match when his side takes on SuperSport United in the MTN8 quarter-final at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday.

“It is going to be a closely contested match. We finished respectively fourth (Chiefs) and fifth (SuperSport) on the log, which makes it a tight match,” revealed Komphela.

Komphela was speaking at the launch of the 2017 MTN8 Cup in Sandton. “Supersport are a good side and, besides a few new players, they also have a new coach in Eric Tinkler,” Komphela added.

“We will be looking to progress to the next stage of the competition and go on to win the trophy.”
Kizer Chiefs Coach Wants More

Chiefs last won the MTN8 in 2014, the second of two such trophies in Amakhosi’s cabinet, with the other coming in 2008.

Komphela is aware of the challenges that lie ahead this season. “We want to start on a winning note. We’ve done our homework and are happy with the preparations so far.

“We want to uphold the tradition and the winning culture of the club. It is important that the integration of the new players must be swift. We have to perform from the first whistle of the season.” - ANA
