Song and dance were the order of the day at the memorial service for Tsekeleke.

Speaking at the service attended by family and friends at Rabasotho Community Hall in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni, Jairus “Jakarumba” Khuse of Trompies praised the late singer.

“Tsekeleke had a big body and also a big heart. He was so forgiving.” Jairus said Tsekeleke, whose real name was Anthony Motaung, was a man who loved to make jokes.

“When we were with him, we would never get bored,” he said.

Jakarumba performed the songs he used to sing with Tsekeleke, whose real name was Anthony Motaung, to a screaming crowd. Mourners took out their cellphones to make videos or take selfies on the side of the stage.

Tsekeleke’s younger brother, Lebohang, joined Jairus on stage and started dancing like his brother, which got mourners clapping and whistling.

Even Pastor Paseka “Mboro” Motsoeneng, who led the service, joined in the dancing. Mboro said it was sad when artists died poor. He told people not to discriminate when deciding on whose funeral to attend by only going to those of rich people.

He then asked mourners to donate money to Tsekeleke’s family.

A box was passed around and by the time it got back to the family it was full of money. Family spokesman Brian Motaung thanked everyone for their support at a difficult time.

He said Tsekeleke would be buried on Saturday at Mooifontein Cemetery in Tembisa. - Daily Sun
