Fadlu Davids: “I Believe Chiefs are Back to their Best”

Pietermaritzburg - Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids is wary of unpredictable Kaizer Chiefs, as the two clubs lock horns in an Absa Premiership clash at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg.

Despite failing to get maximum points in a match that finished goalless against Bidvest Wits, Davids feels Amakhosi are back to their best.

His charges also got one point from a match that finished 0-0 against Orlando Pirates at the same venue five days ago.

Said Davids: “They recently got their first win of the season at Cape Town City. That will definitely motivate them and we know they will come at us with all they’ve got.

“I believe they are back to their best. They didn’t get the results they wanted at the beginning of the season. Now they are a different side, fully motivated.”

Davids said playing two Soweto giants in five days was good for his youthful side. He said they were gaining valuable experience from these games.

“It’s all lessons for younger players on how to handle stress and to use game management in terms of understanding that sometimes things don’t go your way. You get to understand that you sometimes don’t get the early goal and don’t kill games off in the first half.

“They will have to learn and manage all of that. It’s a big game, they can only get better from these games,” said Davids

The Team of Choice were unable to beat Chiefs in both league matches last season. They lost 2-0 away and 2-1 at home.

While United will be looking get the better of Chiefs in Pietermaritzburg, down in Umlazi, Durban, AmaZulu will also be hosting another of Gauteng’s best. Usuthu host league champions Bidvest Wits at King Zwelithini Stadium tonight (7.30pm).

The Durban outfit will be looking to return to winning ways after three matches without a victory. They last won over a month ago, beating Free State Stars 1-0 at the same venue.

Wits, on the other hand, are still seeking their first win of the season. They have two points from four matches after drawing twice, with Ea Lla Koto and Chiefs respectively.

They lost the other two matches to Cape Town City and Golden Arrows respectively. - Daily Sun
