Itumeleng Khune: Captain wants more Trophies for the Club

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune is keen to continue working hard after his excellent form earned him the league's first Player of the Month award this season.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) gave Khune recognition for his superb performances for Amakhosi so far this season by naming him as the Player of the Month for the period of August and September.

The PSL judging panel "felt Khune produced an impressive display and kept his team together during this time. He also stood out for his leadership qualities which saw him lead the Naturena-based side from the back".

The Bafana Bafana shot-stopper, who won Man of the Match awards for three successive matches – against Cape Town City, Maritzburg United and Golden Arrows, may already have a cabinet full of trophies and medals at home, but this did not mean he was taking the award lightly.
Man of the Moment

In fact it was the opposite case. "The last time I won this was three seasons ago," he told the Chiefs website.

"I dedicate this honour to the entire Kaizer Chiefs Family, as without a combined team effort I would never have won this. It's a motivation to be recognised and it makes every player to work harder.

"However, with every achievement comes responsibility. I look ahead to work hard with the team to win more trophies for the club."

Meanwhile Amakhosi defender Kgotso Moleko believes success for Chiefs lies in the ability of their players to become mentally stronger.

The 2017/18 season has so far proved somewhat frustrating for Amakhosi, who despite some promising performances, have managed to win only two of their seven league outings, which sees them occupying sixth position, six points behind leaders Baroka FC. - News 24
