Johannesburg - Steve Komphela reckons only Kaizer Chiefs players have the power to stop ugly scenes at stadiums from being repeated again.
Amakhosi fans were up in arms on Saturday night, throwing missiles at head coach Komphela and his players after their 2-1 Absa Premiership defeat to in-form Baroka FC at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.The win sees Bakgaga move to the top of the table on 15 points, two ahead of Golden Arrows, who drew 1-1 with Chippa United, also in Durban on Saturday.
Police and security guards had to intervene to calm the situation and escort both the coach and his players from the stadium. The angry mob were heard chanting “Steve must go” and “Steve must fall”.
Said Komphela: “I’m not in the business of defending myself, I’m in the business of coaching football clubs. I had to be escorted from the grounds but the only thing they did was to pull on the rail that covers people when they are coming into or leaving the grounds, that’s all.

“The only way to limit such incidents in future is through performance and good results. Less talk and more performance. That’s the only way to do it.”
The defeat means Chiefs remain on nine points from seven matches, six points behind log leaders Bakgaga. They have won two, drawn three and lost two.
Komphela believes his charges created enough chances to at least deserve sharing the spoils with Baroka. The coach said players gave a good account of themselves, especially after trailing early in the second half.
“We came back firing in the second half. The goal they scored early was a bit of a setback but we managed to fight back.
“We had a number of goal-scoring chances. I personally think we played well enough to at least get a draw or even win the match.”
The former Maritzburg United and FS Stars coach also praised young Wiseman Meyiwa, who played without strongman Willard Katsande in the midfield for the first time. Katsande was out serving a suspension.
