Harare – After days of dithering, humiliation and somewhat hesitation – Zimbabwean President, Robert Mugabe has finally fired his Vice President.
According to a press release – Emmerson Mnagagwa – the former VP elevated as Mugabe’s successor by his loyal backers was dismissed in a statement signed by the information minister, Simon Khaya Moyo.Derick Matsengarwodzi
“The Vice President has constituently and persistently exhibited traits of disloyalty, disrespect, deceitfulness and unreliability,” the release noted.
The dismissal comes after a marathon of rallies denouncing Mnagagwa’s actions, the recent one held in Bulawayo, fronted by the first lady – Grace Mugabe.
Mnagagwa follows in the footsteps of his predecessor – Joice Mujuru who was sacked in similar fashion. Recently, the Zanu PF kingpin lost his cabinet post in a cabinet reshuffle.
The state newspaper, the Herald confirmed the dismisal.
“President Mugabe has fired Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa with immediate effect. VP Mnangagwa was fired with immediate effect for among other reasons disloyalty, disrespect, deceit and being unreliable,” said the state controlled daily.
