Harare – Police Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri has commenced his leave, which will calumniate in his impending retirement, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has announced.
Speculation of General Chiwenga becoming Mnangagwa’s second in command as a second Vice President is now a done deal, pending his forthcoming retirement.Derick Matsengarwodzi
“General Constantino Guvheya Dominic Chiwenga is set to retire pending redeployment,” said the statement released by Dr Misheck Sibanda.
Deputy Commissioner Godwin Matanga will take over in an acting capacity during Chihuri’s absence.
Chihuri’s impending departure, which will definitely receive applause from Zimbabweans, was announced by Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda on December 18, 2017, when he announced upgrades in the country’s security apparatus.
Announcing the promotions, the President elevated Lieutenant General Philip Valerio Sibanda to the rank of a full general.
Air Marhal Perrance Shiri and Major General Moyo have been promoted on retirement. Shiri has been elevated to Chief Marshal, while Moyo will become a Lieutenant General.
The duo has assumed since ministerial posts.
The move to elevate military personnel has come under heavy attack from some sections of the populace, though it has become a worldwide trend to elevate military personnel.
Commenting on the changes, Alex Magaisa, a UK based lawyers said: "The entire structures of the state are being reconstituted and redefined. Yet you still hear the same tired conclusion that ED and RGM are the same. MaCdes, this is and will be a very different creature from what we have known before! It's lazy to just say nothing has changed."
