Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs’ newly appointed technical advisor Rob Hutting has requested the club’s supporters not “kill the baby before it’s born” as he looks to prove himself.

Hutting was for the first time introduced to the media at the club’s base in Naturena on Wednesday, following his unsuspected appointment on Tuesday.

Hutting arrives with an unfamiliar track record, having supposedly last coached a German fourth division side back in 2006, and was asked to share some insight into his background.

However, the Dutch-born former midfielder was quick to defend his reputation, saying he is no “internet coach”, before requesting the same question be asked in three months’ time as he looks to show his worth.

“You can choose – do you want an internet coach or a qualified coach? For me, your question is okay, but I prefer that you come after three months and ask the same question,” responded Hutting.

“I only want to help to realise the goals that we have. The only thing I want to ask you [media] is, ‘Don’t kill the baby before it’s born’.

“The club needs experience and competences in a special way, that’s what I’m bringing. I’m not a European who comes here to explain how we play in Europe, but I’m here to help the club.”

Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung also defended against speculation that Hutting’s appointment comes as a ploy to use him as a replacement to coach Steve Komphela, whose contract is set to come to an end in June.

“He [Hutting] has a six-month contract, with an option to renew because it’s his first time in South Africa and he still needs to find his footing,” said ‘Bobsteak’.

“For now, he’ll be technical advisor and even in the future, when we finalise the journey ahead, we’ll be looking at him from that [technical advisor] aspect, not from a coaching aspect.

“He’s not going to be taking over at any time from Mr Komphela, like the ‘prophets of doom’ have said, and I know, in South Africa, there’s the perception that if someone is the technical director or advisor he’s meant to remove somebody.”

Meanwhile, the 62-year-old Hutting also expressed his delight with the warm reception he’s received since his arrival at Naturena, while joking that he’s never experienced so many handshakes in his life as he has in the past two days since his appointment. - KickOff
