Fact File: Why Khama is Better than Evans Rusike

Pretoria - The recent debate involving Khama Billiat and Evans Rusike has generated a lot of controversy - but available data tend to tilt in Khama's favour - and here is why.

In a Mamelodi Sundowns team overflowing with star players, the Zimbabwean international is arguably the one player coach Pitso Mosimane misses most when he is unavailable.

Billiat moved to Chloorkop at the beginning of the season from Ajax Cape Town after prolonged transfer negotiations, with the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates also said to be interested.

The Urban Warriors reportedly slapped a R10million price-tag on his head, Sundowns eventually relented, and it immediately proved money well spent as Billiat terrorised defences.

His combination countryman Cuthbert Malajila, Dove Wome and Katlego Mashego made Downs almost untouchable, but a recurring foot injury cut short what could have been a memorable season.

And Leonardo Castro also stated that Khama is the best player in SA - even better than Percy Tau.
Khama Billiat Amassed Three Awards in 2016

"For me the best player in South Africa at the moment is Khama Billiat," Castro said in a video shared on Twitter by Chiefs.

"He's an exceptional player. I was training with him every day. For me this guy is the best player in South Africa."

In 2016, Billiat, was the big winner at the Premier Soccer League awards evening on Monday. Billiat picked up three honours, as he was named Player of the Season, Players' Player of the Season and the Best Midfielder of the Season.

The Zimbabwean enjoyed a fine 2015-2016 campaign for the Brazilians, as he netted 12 league goals on the way to winning the Absa Premiership title and the Telkom Knockout.

Billiat was not the only member of the Sundowns contingent to walk away with an award on the night, as Thabo Nthethe was named Telkom Knockout Player of the Tournament and best Defender of the Season, while Pitso Mosimane picked up the Coach of the Year award. - Online Sources
