‘Chasing Pack’: Komphela Insists Chiefs can 'Win League'

Johannesburg - Steve Komphela was happy that Kaizer Chiefs managed to keep going at Free State Stars, despite issues with the pitch and the missed chances.

The Amakhosi left it late against Ea Lla Koto on Wednesday night as Teenage Hadebe secured a last-gasp winner, with the goal being enough to see Komphela’s team rise up the Absa Premiership table.

Chiefs are now seven points behind league leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Komphela is happy with the ‘courage’ that they showed by scraping another win when it looked like they would be dropping points.
Confident: Steve Komphela

He told the club’s official website, “The most important thing at this stage of the league is the three points…Three points are all that matters. I’m happy with the resilience and courage that we displayed. The wet conditions complicated the flow of the game but we kept going.

“The slippery pitch made the game difficult. Their goalie did well to keep us at bay with several good saves, no wonder that he was selected as the Man of the Match. Bernard Parker’s bicycle kick and Leonardo Castro’s header were notable chances.”

The win took them to third, but can they still win the league? Komphela certainly thinks so. He concluded by saying, “We are still in the chasing pack. I have said it before – we will remain focused until the final whistle of the season.”

Chiefs’ next game sees them take on Chippa United as they seek to close the gap on Orlando Pirates and Sundowns above them. - Soccer Laduma
