Johannesburg - Despite another disappointing result, Steve Komphela has pointed out that Kaizer Chiefs aren’t out of the Absa Premiership title race just yet.

The Glamour Boys are now 10 points behind log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns, after this weekend’s results, with Komphela’s side being put to the sword by Chippa United at FNB Stadium.

Komphela branded the scoreline a ‘terrible result’ and said, “Losing points is never nice, however, the way we lost… We can’t explain it. I will never run away from my responsibilities. I need to be brave and face the situation and protect the players.

“We just need to keep our focus, as we have a Nedbank Cup semi-final coming up. We also still have a lot to play for when it comes to the league. Mathematically, we are still in the title race, and we also have continental ambitions.”
Under Fire: Steve Komphela

With only 12 points left to play for before the season finishes, another Sundowns win this weekend would see the Glamour Boys officially out of the race, and Komphela is once again made to rue missed chances.

Speaking to the club’s official website after losing to the Chilli Boys, Komphela said, “They took advantage of the chances and they got the result they wanted. We looked lethargic and we have to admit that.

“We got enough chances. Dumisani Zuma and Ryan Moon both got two, Siphiwe Tshabalala got one… There were more, although I know that you can’t count them if you don’t take them. It doesn’t matter. Congratulations to Chippa.” - Soccer Laduma
