Steve Komphela: Adaptation not Easy for Young Ntshangase

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has explained the lack of game-time for midfielder Siphelele Ntshangase in recent weeks.

Ntshangase has been reduced to an impact player since his arrival at Naturena at the start of the year, making just one start and seven substitute appearances thus far.

The former Black Leopards star was highly sought-after by the club’s demanding supporters, and his move from Baroka was met with great excitement and anticipation in January.

However, fans have yet to see his true brilliance in the black and gold, and Komphela has explained that adaptation and the weight of expectation is what has restricted his playing time.

“Chiefs is a different animal. Adaptation here is not easy for the young kid and … listen, this is an unbelievable – this brand is huge, it will swallow you,” said Komphela after their 1-0 win over Platinum Stars, in which Ntshangase came off the bench in the 61st minute.
Adaptation is Taking Longer for Player

“You could come here having achieved immensely in your little environment, or in your environment but when you come here, dynamics are different.

“Adaptation takes long. We’ve seen top players come to Chiefs and you say, ‘But what happened with them?’ So, we need to understand that.

“Coming from Black Leopards; coming from Baroka; having played as well for [Bafana]; the talent is there, but to come and just hit the ground running here is not easy.”

Komphela further explained that there is nothing lacking in terms of talent for the former junior international, but stressed that finding one’s feet at a big club is not easy for anyone.

“It doesn’t only happen with players, [for] everybody else it’s not easy at Chiefs. But we are patient. There are glimpses of him, where you see the brilliance and intelligence in him, but you want to see that more consistently,” he added.

“But, it needs a lot of mental strength and acceptance of the challenge, and going through the challenge knowing that you are a professional. He will get there…

“But where he had been playing before, it was clear – his talent was clear. He’s very exciting, very energetic and all that. It’s not that since he came to Chiefs he doesn’t do such, it’s [just] not easy here.” - KickOff
