Steve Komphela: “The Next Three Fixtures are Crucial”

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela confessed it has been a tough week for Amakhosi but insists that real growth as a team and a person can only happen through discomfort.

Chiefs bounced back from a 3-0 loss to Chippa United last weekend with a 1-0 win over Platinum Stars on Sunday.

The Amakhosi mentor admits it was not an easy game against Stars and reserved special praise for his counterpart Roger de Sa, who even forced Chiefs to change their tactics.

“It is not easy to come back from the week we had and I am happy with the result, but we could have done better,” Komphela told SuperSport after the game.
Steve Komphela Remains Optimistic

“Roger’s teams are always structured and give you problems and compliments must be given to him as well.

“They (Stars) never loosened in the midfield and we had to have an adjustment tactically in the second half, into a more 4-2-3-1 because we had to manage the game as well.

“I thought we could have scored one or two more chances, but I am happy with the result. It will lift the players and that is very important. As soon as the emotions are lifted you can go forward a bit easier."

Looking ahead to his side’s final three games in the league, Komphela emphasised the importance of getting positive results.

“The next three fixtures are crucial fixtures. We will look at them and try get points from them,” added the Chiefs coach. It is our responsibility to keep grinding and to keep playing. The greatest growth happens in discomfort.” - Soccer Laduma
