‘Steve Must Go’: PSL to Sanction Chiefs Over Unruly Supporters

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs could face the wrath of the Premier Soccer League in the near future, following fan disturbances at FNB Stadium that saw unruly supporters throw things onto the field.

The Amakhosi were thumped 3-0 by Chippa United over the weekend – their worst league result since 2009 – and the final whistle was met with chants of ‘Steve Must Go’ as objects were thrown down at Steve Komphela and the Chiefs players.

Last month, AmaZulu were charged with contravening the Safety and Security Manual after their fans threw objects at the officials following a defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns, and the Amakhosi could face the same fate.

The crew got in contact with the PSL’s Head of Media, Luxolo September, who said that processes would have to be followed.

He explained, "What happened there is not good for football. But we have to follow (the) process: get match commissioner report, pass it to Prosecutor and he must make an independent decision.”

Meanwhile, the CEO of Stadium Management SA, Jacques Grobbelaar, has confirmed that a ‘strategic meeting’ took place today to discuss the unsavoury events of the weekend, with Chiefs’ Bobby Motaung present alongside the South African Police Service.
