Willard Katsande: Three Years no Trophy is Unacceptable

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs' veteran midfielder Willard Katsande has called on supporters to have patience and allow the youngsters in the squad to return the club to its former glory days.

Amakhosi are set to undergo an ‘overhaul’ ahead of next season as they have once again faltered in their quest for the Absa Premiership title – currently sitting 10 points adrift of log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, with just four games to play.

The overhaul could see a number of changes in playing personnel, with Katsande admitting that his own future is not guaranteed despite still having two years left on the contract extension he penned in March last year.

However, the 32-year-old strongly believes that the club is in safe hands with the youngsters in the current squad, while calling for patience from the supporters.

“It’s unacceptable – three years; no trophy, but at the same time you can see we have a new squad that’s completely different from three seasons ago,” said Katsande.

“We are trying to rebuild the team, as you can see from the couple of youngsters that have come on board. So we just need to make them understand how it feels to win trophies.

“I think, given the time next season, now they know how to play in Kaizer Chiefs’ colours. I think, obviously it might sound crazy but at the same time, we have built a young, solid team, whereby even if our time is over of playing for Chiefs, there are youngsters to carry the team forward.

“If you could see them, they have 10-11 seasons in their legs here at Kaizer Chiefs. I think we just need to support them and keep on building with whatever the club have built around them.” - KickOff
