Khama Billiat: Bucs, Chiefs and Wits Chase Sundowns Star

Pretoria - Four South African soccer giants, alongside an array of European giants are hunting the signature of soon-to-be free agent - Zimbabwean star Khama Billiat.

Billiat is expected to leave the Brazilians as a free agent at the end of the current campaign having decided not to extend his contract with the Tshwane giants.

His imminent departure from Sundowns has triggered interest from European clubs to limited to Qarabag of Azerbaijan and Swedish side Djurgadens ahead of the July-August transfer window.

Among the top contenders are: Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits.

Billiat's agent Michael Ngobeni has since stated that 27-year-old wants to remain focused in his last games as a Sundowns player.

"Everyone wants him and the whole world knows he's going to be free [by June 30]," Ngobeni told Sunday World.

The M-Sport Management director confirmed that local and foreign clubs are keen to sign Billiat with Sunday World having indicated that Bucs, Chiefs and Wits are the frontrunners for the player's signature.

"But everyone has to wait until he finishes the season," Ngobeni, who took over managing the player a few months ago from Siya Loyilane, revealed.

"Khama still has a contract with the club even though he's going to be free, so there's no reason why we should rush," he concluded.

Sundowns' Tshwane rivals SuperSport United are also said to be monitoring Billiat's situation at the Chloorkop-based club.

Billiat, who joined the Brazilians from Ajax Cape Town prior to the start of the 2013/14 season, has been enjoying regular game at Sundowns this season despite having decided against extending his stay at the eight-time PSL champions club.

The former CAPS United attacker played the entire match as Sundowns drew 1-1 with Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in the 2018 Caf Champions League Group C game in Tshwane on Saturday.

He has impressively netted eight goals in 14 league starts for the Brazilians this season - helping the team clinch the 2017/18 PSL title in the process. - Goal.com
