Luc Eymael: I Know There is Interest, no Smoke Without Fire

Johannesburg - The battle to replace departed Steve Komphela at Kaizer Chiefs is getting interesting.

And now, Nedbank Cup-winning coach Luc Eymael says if no club contacts him by the end of the week, he will remain at Free State Stars next season.

The Belgian led Ea Lla Koto to their first top-flight trophy in 24 years following their 1-0 victory over Maritzburg United in Saturday’s season-ending spectacle in Cape Town, with Goodman Dlamini’s first-half strike proving the difference.

Eymael’s future has been a constant talking point in recent months, with talk of a possible move to Kaizer Chiefs to replace the departed Komphela.

Following Saturday’s victory, Eymael made a bold statement regarding his future, insisting he will remain at the Free State club should no offers be presented to him this week.

“I have never had an official offer in my hand,” he said. “I know there’s interest – there is no smoke without fire. If something is going to happen, it has to happen this week. Because, if nothing happens, when I come back from Belgium I will go back to Free State.

“I will not call or leave a letter like some other people saying I won’t come back. I will stay at Free State Stars if nothing happens this week. I am very happy at Stars.”
Eymael insisted he’d remain true to his word.

“I have had two offers from Belgium, from St Truiden and Waasland-Beveren,” he said. “I would really like to return to Belgium, but only for a very good team where I can compete for the top five or six.

“If Chiefs come to me after this week, I will not go to Chiefs, I will go to Free State Stars. They have never contacted me, and that’s the truth. If no one comes by the end of the week, I will go to back to Stars because I promised them that – I’m not a liar.” - Online Sources
