Samuel Eto'o, who is a United Nations goodwill ambassador, was due to spread messages of peace and encourage children to go back to school.

He is a Francophone Cameroonian professional footballer who plays as a striker for Turkish club Konyaspor.

The most decorated African player of all time has won the African Player of the Year award a record four times: in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2010. He was third in the FIFA World Player of the Year award in 2005.

Eto'o scored over 100 goals in five seasons with Barcelona, and is also the record holder in number of appearances by an African player in La Liga. In 2010, he became the first player to win two European continental trebles following his back-to-back achievements with Barcelona and Inter Milan.

He is the second player in history to score in two UEFA Champions League finals and the fourth player, after Marcel Desailly, Paulo Sousa and Gerard Piqué, to have won the trophy two years in a row with different teams.

But English-speaking Cameroonians have condemned a plan by the international football star, Eto'o, to visit their troubled parts of the country. Dozens of people have been killed and hundreds displaced during months of violence in English-speaking areas.

Anglophone separatists, who call themselves Ambazonians, say they are marginalised by the French-speaking majority.

Samuel Eto’o also presented a project of sports and studies to the Minister of Secondary Education which he intends to put in place with the help of the government which will help young Cameroonians achieve their dreams.

The striker was appearing in public for the second time this week since arriving Cameroon after he was spotted at the Caf Excellence centre in Mbankomo during the MTN Elite I ecounter between Dragon of Yaounde and Yong Sport
