#Zim2018Elections: Silly Season as Politician Officially Opens Dust Bin

Harare – With the canvassing season upon Zimbabwe – political parties and politicians alike are at loggerheads – thwarting each other to win the hearts of an estimated 6 million voters with the polling date set for 30 July, 2018.

But the way some politicians are stampeding to earn the hearts of citizens has left observers thunderstruck to say the least.

And recently, Zimbabwe’s Finance minister Patrick Chinamasa seized the ‘fool of the campaign season’ – after he was captured while officially cutting off a ribbon to hand over a dust bin in Rusape – as supporters applauded in glee – and probably breaking the Guinness Book of Records.

“You couldn’t make it up - Zimbabwe’s Finance Minister officially opens a rubbish bin! And they are clapping and grinning ... (but look at the little boy in the red hoodie, who looks totally bemused and unimpressed by the tomfoolery),” observed lawyer Alex Magaisa, igniting social media frenzy.

Respected scribe Lance Guma also added his opinion.

“Those trying to deny that Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa officially opened a rubbish bin, here is more evidence for you. Is that not a ribbon comrades? There is no Sports Complex in sight here.”

Opposition politician and former finance minister Tendai Biti was equally sarcastic with the wayward deed.

“Have we become this desperate as a people? Are we a cursed nation?” he asked.

Exiled former Zanu PF spin doctor and apologist Jonathan Moyo summed up the feat, describing it as the final nail for the ruling party.

“ZANUPF HEADING FOR THE POLITICAL DUSTBIN OF HISTORY TO SEAL ITS ILLEGITIMACY AFTER THE NOVEMBER MILITARY COUP: Patrick Chinamasa does the honours in Rusape!”

Harare Mayor Bernard Manyenyeni previously irked social media enthusiasts when he officially opened an elevator.

Of late, the ruling Zanu PF has rebuked MDC Alliance Nelson Chamisa for his spaghetti and bullet trains manifesto – saying his thinking is pure political populism.
