Harare – Aaron Mhukuta aka Madzibaba Wimbo the man who prophesied ousted President Robert Mugabe’s rise to power was buried in the absence of his family.

The ongoing family versus church feud has reportedly led the family to seek audience with President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Exnevia Gomo – Wimbo’s eldest son says that since 2015 they had not met their biological father, who was confined to his shrine permanently.

“We have exhausted all the means to find a solution and we are still waiting to see our father’s body, as they refused to allow us to see it. And they went on to bury him while most of us were not there.”

‘We have now written to the president and we are yet to get his response. Hopefully, we will get that response soon,” the heartbroken Gomo told a local daily.

Madzibaba Wimbo’s son, Professor Gomo, said they heard of the death from the grapevine.

“For three years we were not allowed to see our father. I hope we will be allowed to view his body. I live 10 minutes away from the hospital where he died but I was not informed.

“I do not know how we will co-operate with such people. We appeal to Government to assist us,” he said.

The provincial minister for Mashonaland Central, Martin Dinha who was one of the government officials who attended Wimbo’s burial at the prophet’s heavily-secured shrine said the tension during the burial was palpable.

In response, Mnangagwa has allegedly dispatched an emissary comprising of senior members of the ruling Zanu PF to the feuding parties to mediate the ongoing dispute.

Madzibaba Wimbo joined the apostolic sect in 1935 and became a popular prophet in 1945. In 1987, Madzibaba Wimbo took over from Mudyiwa Dzangare, known as Emmanuel “Jesus from Chiweshe”.

In 2012, he appointed Ishmael Mugodi as his successor, deputised by Chingwena, Zexpa Macheche and Edson Mukohwa. He is survived by two wives, 18 children and several grandchildren.
