Harare – The Handitye family is appealing to good Samaritans to assist with funds for repatriating their daughter’s body back home to accord her a decent burial – after her sudden death in China, recently.

Tatenda – the bubbly 26-year-old had just relocated to China for employment – and after working for only four days, she succumbed to an organ failure – while efforts resuscitate her were futile.

“She left for China at the beginning of September. She had worked for four days but one morning she failed to wake up. She was discovered two days later with multiple organ failure and put on life support for four days,” a relative revealed.

Tatenda’s mother – the only surviving parent is unemployed – and hopes to see her daughter for the final time. The family needs around $15 000 in order to claim her body from the Chinese authorities and then transport it back home.

The Wuhan Union Hospital and Wuhan Yin Jin Tan Hospital needs $5 600 and $5 360 respectively – with mortuary charges pegged at $7.50 a day – while air fares could exceed $4 000.

Two initiatives: gofundme and EcoCash: +263 777 212 063 registered as Charles Handitye – has so far raised $500 in a day through online contributions.

“So young and so full of life – I grieve for the family. Her mother had raised a beacon of hope. It is a struggle to bring Tatenda back home for burial alongside her people, alongside her father who was tragically taken while she was in her mother's womb,” a commentator said.
