Harare — The Zimbabwe media fraternity has lost another veteran journalist Grace Mutandwa.

She was 57.

According to her brother Andrew, Grace succumbed to cancer, diagnosed a year ago.

“She was born in Bulawayo on July 26, 1963 and was having ongoing treatment for cancer which was diagnosed in June 2019,” Andrew said.

Her son Tawanda had launched fundraising initiative to assist in her treatment. Grace launched her journalism career at the Sunday Mail, before she moved to other media organisations, then the British Embassy.

“She worked in the media for more than 30 years, starting off at the Sunday Mail. Later she held other positions in various media houses including at ZIANA and the Financial Gazette as Arts Editor, as well as Public Affairs Officer at the British Embassy in Harare,” his brother told the Herald.

She authored two books The Power and the Glory and Oh Daniel. Her death comes two months after the death of two other respected scribes Gift Phiri and Ray Matikinye who passed on the same day.

Grace is survived by her three children Tawanda, Tanaka, and Tendai. And burial arrangements are yet to be pronounced.

Meanwhile, her media colleagues continue to mourn her death. “Like a candle in the wind, her physical being blew off, but her soul has found a better place. Your warmth will always be engraved in our hearts Grace,” wrote Zimbabwe Women Journalists.

The Gender and Media Connect said, “GMC joins the rest of the Media Stakeholders in mourning the passing on of veteran female journalist Grace Mutandwa. Indeed journalism will never be the same again.” — tinzwei.com/Online Sources
