Popular Nigerian televangelist, TB Joshua has officially joined former American president Donald Trump on the sidelines of social media platforms for violating set rules.

After he was reported to have used hate speech, allegedly exorcising gay people, termed ‘conversion therapy, his YouTube channel was terminated. Facebook also removed certain posts, though some are still visible and the page has 5.6 million followers.

“We don’t allow attacks against people based on their sexual orientation or gender identity, including content promoting conversion therapy services,” a Facebook company spokesperson said.

“We take attacks on the LGBT+ community incredibly seriously and encourage people to report this kind of content when they see it so we can investigate''

The video has been watched more than 1.5 million times on TB Joshua Ministries’ YouTube channel. It appeared first on Emmanuel TV, a television station owned by Joshua’s megachurch in Lagos, The Synagogue, Church of All Nations (SCOAN).

Between 2016 and January 2020, the channel posted at least seven similar clips showing the charismatic Christian televangelist engaging in violent exorcism to ‘cure’ gay and lesbian congregants of their sexual orientation by casting out “the demon of homosexuality”.

The closed channel had amassed 1.8 million subscribers, was closed on 12 April. In January 2021, former US President Donald Trump’s Twitter account was “permanently suspended… due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”

Twitter said the decision was made “after close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account”. Though TB Joshua could appeal his embargo, Trump was permanently banned. In May 2004 the National Broadcasting Commission banned TV stations from showing programmes of pastors performing miracles on television unless they had been verified.

There were accusations that some of the miracles were fake and performed by actors. TV stations pulled the pastors' programmes to avoid having their licences revoked or being hit by fines from the NBC.
