Jazz Singer and songwriter Gloria Bosman has died at the age of 50 after a short illness. An unconsolable source confirmed the news to Sunday World on Tuesday.

Jazz legend Sipho Hotstix also confirmed the news on his social media where he paid a tribute to the singer.

A month ago Bosman was announced as the newest member to join the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (Samro) board of directors.

Bosman was born in Soweto and was a jazz, African, rock, and gospel vocalist. She was also an accomplished producer, composer and presenter.

She has shared the stage with musical legends including Hugh Masekela, Sibongile Khumalo, Moses Molelekwa, Tananas, and Sipho Mabuse. Her five albums have all been an unmitigated success:

Her debut offering, Tranquillity, earned an award for Best Newcomer as well as nominations for Best Contemporary Jazz Album and Best Female Artist at the 2001 SAMAs.

Her second album, The Many Faces Of Gloria Bosman, featured collaborations with
some of the finest musicians in South Africa and has earned her nominations for both Best Southern African Artist and Most Promising Female Artist at the prestigious KORA Awards of 2001, as well as a SAMA nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album.

Bosman was born in 1973 whose career began in church choirs in Soweto. Felicia Marion from the band Joy spotted her and used her for a production in the Market Theater in 1993 (to stand in for another singer). After this production she was awarded an opera scholarship from the Tshwane University of Technology .

Her debut album, Tranqaility (1999), won the Sama prize for best newcomer. For Nature's Dance (2004) she received six Sama nominations and was named best female songwriter.

Then follow two Kora and eleven more Sama nominations. She has already released five albums, the last one, Emzini , was released in 2006. - Online Sources
