The art of courtship requests a dose of fortitude. Convincing a soul mate demands an authentic heart – speckled with adoration.

And convincing Africa richest man’s soul requests real associates coupled with a rare African spirit. For now, its certified information, a fifth of Alhaji Aliko Dangote riches are destined for Harare.

In his admittance, “We are not here looking to invest, we have already made up our mind to invest. So we are here and we will invest.”

Duly, he is a busy man – and justly assembled amongst the world richest moguls.

Africa for Africans
It is never a shock that some also sought to attain fame claiming to have attempted to attract Africa’s tycoon to Harare. But for the sake of this article, we shall focus on one – Josey Mahachi – a telly host.

But why did he choose Zimbabwe, out of a vast of possible investment destinations. Simply because, he is driven by a philosophy: Africa for Africans – a dream mutual to Harare’s leader.

With power generations in Zimbabwe stuttering, though the land is endowed with resources, the billion dollar investment dangled by Dangote is apt. The cement plant he intends to set up will certainly motivate competition, create employment and manifest in infrastructure development.

Patience pays
Patience is a virtue that many need to acquire in abundance when you need to attract a serious business person like the one under debate. Mahachi mentions she was patient all the while – almost a year lapsed, until the Nigerian magnate finally confirmed he was coming to Zimbabwe.

According to her, she instigated the “courtship” to bring the Kano billionaire into Harare, a while back. “I made moves to bring Mr Dangote to the country for over a year. I went about it silently for all this while as he is an extremely busy man. When I met him for the first time last year, his calendar was full.”

Secondly, as we discovered from Mahachi, you may need your own resources to converse with the best. Imagine if she had solicited for funds from someone to proceed with her agenda. How many would have taken her offer – the truth please! From now onwards, her life will not be the same – never.

You may not share his religious beliefs, but Mr Dangote is a spiritual gentleman. And he takes his fellowship highly. “We saw Mr Dangote after their Muslim Friday prayer. I was shocked to see him dressed in traditional attire as I had thought he always wore suits.”

And Mahachi prayed as well. “God has answered your prayers, we are going to Zimbabwe,” he revealed to her.

The next tip is to keep cards close to the chest. Imagine if she had blown her intentions earlier on. How many partakers would have joined the bandwagon? You too might have joined the party and claimed fame where you did not deposit. Until her intentions had materialised, only then did she make necessary contacts.

A while back, many investment deals intended for Harare faltered due to certain personality who abused their designations, seeking a sweetener to pave way for investment into the country. In the end, the nation suffered as some deals were aborted. What hypocrisy.

Don’t destroy bridges
Build bridges and maintain them – it may sound simple but many have faltered. Before the Kano native descended on Harare, he made a courtesy call on former Nigerian premier, Olusegun Obasanjo.

There, he got the full resume on Zimbabwe. Only then, was he convinced to fly to Harare – we presume. Harare’s resume is blameless – we suppose.

And obviously one needs to make use of contacts and influence and in order to seek favour and riches for their motherland. Being married to a Nigerian, she possessed an advantage. For her efforts, she got a praise message from the head of state stating that she was a true ambassador.

Lastly, never listen to your detractors too often – or else you might miss out the sweetness of the Dangote blessing.

May true African ambassadors please rise, again!
