Local celebrities are fast catching their Hollywood counterparts in breaking marriage collapse records. The following are public figures who have had a turbulent love life and relationships.

Apparently celebrities are especially susceptible to being married for very short periods of time. Here are some that were so short they make the matrimonial institution look short , and some that lasted a bit longer and make the institution look long.

1. Morgan Tsvangirai – Locadia Karimatsenga

After losing his first wife Susan in 2009, the former Prime Minister became the most eligible bachelor in the land.

He was rumoured to be involved with several women before allegedly paying the bride prize for Locadia Karimatsenga in November 2011.

After just two weeks, Tsvangirai said he had married the ‘wrong woman’ and subsequently disowned making probably the fastest marriage collapse which involved the public figure.

In fact the marriage lasted for only 12 days. The former premier later married Elizabeth Macheka whom he is still married to.

2. Sharon Macheso – Kudakwashe Munetsi

One newspaper article had a headline, Sungura wedding of the year describing Sharon and Kudakwashe’s wedding. It was indeed punctuated with glitz and glamour.

Sharon’s father, Alick put icing on the marriage by giving the newlyweds a Chitungwiza house as a present.

However, three months down the line, the couple has filed for divorce. There are accusations and counter accusations of infidelity, drug abuse and laziness.

Sharon, through her lawyer Norman Mugiya of Mugiya and Macharaga Law Chambers, filed for divorce under case number HC9538/14, insisting that the marriage had irretrievably broken down. She is also claiming $400 monthly as maintenance.

Sharon in her declaration papers: “The marriage relationship between the plaintiff (Sharon) and the defendant (Munetsi) has irretrievably broken down and there is no reasonable prospect of the restoration of a normal marriage relationship between the pair.”

3. Ivy Kombo - Edmore Moyo

Ivy Kombo and Edmore Moyo wedded in December 2001. Moyo subsequently file for divorce in 2002 after discovering that her wife had sired a child with her foster father Admire Kasi.

It took several years for the divorce to pass through. However, the two lived together as husband and wife for less than a year.

Ivy Kombo and Admire Kasi married in 2009 and admitted that Sammy-Joe, the child that was born in 2002 did not belong to Moyo.

4. Makanaka Wakatama - Obvious Sambazi

In 2006, she made newspaper headlines after I was impregnated by a businessman and entered into an early marriage at 15 and gave birth to two children by the age of 17.

The marriage only lasted for two years. “The story became subject of intense debate as I was a minor. I was young and naïve.

“After time spent in meditation and observing what was happening to me and my children, I picked up the pieces of my life and began to move on as a mother of two,” she said.

5. Mercy Mutsvene marriages

Mercy Mutsvene has had three husbands in less than a decade. The gospel singer was married in 2002 by one Simbarashe Ngwenya.

She filed for divorce in 2007 citing irreconcilable differences. In 2008, she was married by a bishop and relocated to Zambia.

The marriage lasted for less than a year. She divorced the Zambian bishop in 2009 and subsequently married Tongai Nheta the same year. She has been married to Nheta since then. - Online Sources
