HARARE. - Zimbabwean traditional music sensation Hope Masike has been nominated for the 2016 KORA Awards in the Best Traditional Female Artist of Africa category to be hosted in Namibia.

Masike's name has put in the hat together with Dobet Gnahoré and Abby Lakew among others for the accolade.

Hope Masike 

Since its inception, the KORA Awards has been staged twelve times on the African Continent. Having hosted by South Africa for ten consecutive years, it moved to Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire. 

The awards likened to the American Grammy Awards, have a set a record as one of the most watched television event on the African continent after the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games. 

Ernest Adjovi founded the awards in 1994.

Dobet Gnahote 

Masike launched her music profession in 2008, later founding her traditional ensemble. A year later she released her debut album entitled 'Hope'.

The rising singer is riding in a wave of fame.

She shared the stage with such luminaries as Zimbabwe's mbira gurus Mbuya Stella Chiweshe plus the late Chiwoniso Maraire. Oliver Mtukudzi, Mafikizolo and Zahara complete her list of collaborations.

Furthermore, she collaborated with the Norwegian World Music outfit, Monoswezi on the album ‘The Village’, which was accorded warm reviews. 

Ernest Adjovi 

Among her achievements are nominations in the Songlines World Music Awards, ‘Outstanding Female Musician’ for Zimbabwe’s (NAMA) National Arts Merit Awards 2013. She has also appeared on various television channels. 

Voting commences on January, 2016.
