Malia Obama, the first daughter has been accepted to Harvard University, just like her parents before her - but she has a different plan in mind for college.

Malia 17, has finally revealed where she is going to college - Harvard! After a lengthy, high-profile college selection process, the White House released in a statement on May 1 that Malia has been accepted to Harvard University’s class of 2017.

Isn’t there a year missing here?
Like Father Like Daughter

“The President and Mrs. Obama announced today that their daughter Malia will attend Harvard University in the fall of 2017 as a member of the Class of 2021. Malia will take a gap year before beginning school,” the White House said in a statement

A 'gap year' is an option that many students choose to take before going to college, or even during their studies; by deferring her enrollment until Fall 2017, Malia gets to have a year to herself to do whatever she thinks is necessary for herself and her education.

She will acquire work experience, travel the world, even just get some time to herself after spending eight years growing up in the public eye. With this gap year, Malia won’t have to go to her freshman orientation while her father is still the president. - Online Sources
