Johannesburg - Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane is expected to meet provincial taxi associations this morning following a shootout near the Mall of Africa during its opening day.

Three people were wounded in the shooting which is believed to be linked to a taxi dispute over routes.
Parking Were Bays Packed During the Opening Day

It was business as usual outside the shopping centre and a handful of taxis were seen dropping off commuters - this after the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) said taxi journeys to the mall would be stopped until the dispute is resolved.

A man who witnessed the shooting claimed the dispute was between the Ivory Park and Alexandra taxi associations. Over two weeks ago, five Ivory Park taxi bosses were attacked while standing on the corner of Old Pretoria Road.

One of them died and authorities believe this crime was also linked to an ongoing dispute over routes. While authorities have not confirmed the link between the two, the route for the Mall of Africa appears to be a contested space.

Authorities continue to monitor the roads around the shopping centre. - Online Sources
