Father's Pain: 'How my Son Stole my Woman'

Mandla Buthelezi devoted his life to taking care of his son - he also allowed his son to live with him until he found a job - but his kindness was repaid with treachery.

The 46-year old came home to his house in Empilisweni squatter camp, Thokoza, Ekurhuleni and found his girlfriend, Sophie Moremoholo (37) in bed with his son Sipho Khanye (23).

“They didn’t lock the door and I walked in. I couldn’t believe it when I found them in bed together,” said Mandla.

“I was angry. I took a weapon to hit Sipho but he retaliated.” Mandla went and told the community what was going on and the woman and his son were kicked out.

“We have a five-year-old son together. Will my son one day call his own brother his father?” Mandla said his girlfriend of 10 years said she started sleeping with Sipho because he didn’t perform well in bed.

Mandla said the trouble started when he allowed Sipho to come to Johannesburg because there were no jobs in the Eastern Cape. “But I never thought letting him come here would destroy my life. “My world is coming to an end. How can my own son do this to me? I don’t want anything to do with that evil boy.”

He said he could understand that his wife was unhappy. “But why doesn’t she go out and find another man. “Why does she have to get involved with my own flesh and blood?”

Mandla said he went to the police but they said they could only refer the matter to their domestic unit, who would sit with them and try and sort out the problem.

“I just want them to bring my five-year-old son and they can continue with their lives,” said Mandla.
Daily Sun spoke to Sophie, who said she will never go back to Mandla.

“He was no good in bed and he was abusive. I don’t understand why Mandla is complaining.”
She admitted to Daily Sun she was living with Mandla’s son. Sipho said his father is useless.

“I want him out of our lives. I’m with Sophie and I won’t let her go. He didn’t do anything for me when I was growing up. Of course I told him I was going to hit him.”

Community leader Fikile Buthelezi told Daily Sun they kicked Sipho and Sophie out of the shack.
“We didn’t want the poor man to end up on the streets.”

Sophie and Sipho are staying somewhere in Palm Springs. On Sunday, Daily Sun waited for two hours after arranging to meet the pair but they never arrived and their phones were turned off. - Daily Sun
