Promise Mkwanazi, the spokesperson of Tajamuka and Acie Lumumba, appeared in court yesterday facing separate charges.

He was remanded in custody to tomorrow. Mkwanazi, who was arrested last Friday, wanted to apply for bail.

But Harare regional magistrate Mr Vakai Chikwekwe ruled that there was insufficient time for the application as the State was contesting it.

The court closes early on Saturdays. On June 16, 2016; Mkwanazi allegedly led a group of dissenting youths to Choppies Supermarket along Nelson Mandela Avenue, Harare.

It is alleged that he then shouted obscenities and encouraged the group to destroy the supermarket, saying it was owned by Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko, whom he labelled “corrupt”.

Property worth US$1 000 was vandalised in the subsequent violence. Meanwhile, political activist William Mutumanje, alias Acie Lumumba, also appeared before Magistrate Chikwekwe on forgery and fraud charges.

Lumumba, Tonderai Maphosa and Gilson Mubaiwa are accused of forging a vehicle registration book and defrauding a buyer of US$1 850. Mubaiwa is still at large.

The State has it that the trio were in possession of a Toyota Ipsum and counterfeited its registration book.

They then sold the vehicle to a buyer who later discover that it was not recorded in the national central vehicle registry. Lumumba was also remanded in custody to tomorrow. - The Sunday Mail
