Wonder Gift: Baby Born Without Private Parts

Congrats on your baby girl – or boy, these are the words every newborn baby’s mum hears when her bundle of joy arrives - but it was not to be for Nomvula Zulu of Maboloka, near Brits in North West.

The 30-year-old gave birth on Saturday at Letlhabile Clinic in Brits and named her baby Gontse.

Sadly, her baby was born without any private parts, so no one knows if the child is a girl or boy.

As Gontse does not have an anus, the baby relieves itself through the umbilical cord which is still attached to its body.

According to the mum, after the baby was born, an X-ray was performed and they were told it could be a boy.

“They then promised to transfer us the next day to George Mukhari Academic Hospital in Ga-Rankuwa for an operation.

“But since Sunday, tomorrow never comes.” Nomvula feels the more things are delayed, the more complicated the situation might become.

“I don’t know what the cause of the delay is and it pains me to see my baby like this,” said the worried mum of four.

Nomvula’s sister Delisile Zulu said they think the baby is a girl. “We don’t know when the baby will get help as this transfer process seems to be taking too long.”

Delisile said the hospital told them no beds were available at George Mukhari.

North West Health spokesman Tebogo Lekgwethwane said: “The hospital has indicated they are doing their best to get a bed for the child at George Mukhari.
