Harare – Mamelodi Sundowns proprietor, Patrice Motsepe has admitted that local is better after a string of failed attempts by the club while foreign coaches where in charge.

After the mounting task of beating Egyptian giants Zamalek in African Champions league, the mining magnet admitted that local coaches were better.

“The irony is that we had coaches from all over the world but had to wait for a young man from South Africa to deliver this trophy. It shows there is so much talent in the country and we must invest in the youth.”

Sundowns President, Patrice Mostsepe

Johan Neeskens took over in 2011 – before Mosimane was romped in, however, majority of the foreign contingent was a cocktail of disaster.

“This is a humble contribution from Sundowns to South Africa. It was a great honour to represent the country and we are honoured to bring this trophy back home. The country had some difficult challenges concerning school fees because many students come from poor families…,” said Motsepe.

Motsepe is known for sponsoring needy students.

Mosimane came in saying, “Let’s find out how we fare in global football. We will know where we are (in terms of progress) because we will be playing against continental champions.”

He is happy to avoid big guns in next year’s preliminary.

“We always play on the offensive and try to hold on to the ball as much as we can. We don’t know how to defend. This was the only game that pushed us so deep, we had our backs against the wall.”

Jingles is not happy with the outcome in Egypt – though it did not alter the script much. “I am not happy that we lost the game but we lifted the trophy, so let’s sit back and absorb that fact.”

Their forthcoming challenge is the Fifa Club World Cup in Japan from December 8–18. The Pretoria team becomes the first South African team to participate in the competition introduced in 2000.

The Brazilians will interact with soccer heavyweights such as Real Madrid and clubs from Columbia and Mexico.
