Harare – Considering the latest developments in the Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (Zimdef) saga, Professor Jonathan Moyo, the chief culprit will finally have a day in court – after a recent court application by a concerned citizen.

A Harare man, Hardlife Mudzingwa says the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption (ZACC) must not be stopped from bringing the minister from justice.

Mudzingwa recently applied to the High Court to drag Prof Moyo to face justice. His papers were revealed before Justice Loice Matanda-Moyo in an urgent chamber application.

In return, Justice Moyo deferred the hearing to 25 October to allow Prof Moyo to respond.

Justice Matanda-Moyo, however, deferred the hearing to October 25 to allow Prof Moyo to respond. ZACC has stated that they have a ready docket implicating the former Zanu-PF spin doctor.

“The judge postponed the matter to allow Prof Moyo to file his papers. She also wants ZACC to respond to the amended provisional order,” said Advocate Sylvester Munyaradzi Hashiti, acting for Mudzingwa.

Lewis Uriri representing Prof Moyo was angered by the court case.

“Our Client was only served with the papers shortly before the hearing of the matter in the afternoon. We also protested the fact that the application and its imminent date of hearing was already public knowledge…”

Prof Moyo has requested time to file his opposing papers. The order was change after police revealed that they had not arrested Prof Moyo as no report was made to them.

Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko, Commissioner-General of Police Augustine Chihuri and ZACC were cited as respondents.

Mudzingwa mentioned it was his constitutional right, as a Zimbabwean citizen to have Prof Moyo “brought before equity.”

Prof Moyo has likened himself to Robin Hood – for his part in diverting funds towards various Zanu-PF party activities – including President Mugabe’s 92nd birthday.
