Harare – Former Vice President and Zanu-PF political castaway, Joice Mujuru has denied knowledge of Gukurahundi disturbances in a bid to spruce her image, though she spent three decades in government.

In an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera ‘UpFront’, the former vice president and presently Zimbabwe People’s First leader apologised for the atrocities.

“You have to feel bad and sorry and say sorry to those that have been affected,” adding that she was allegedly booted out of the ruling party for condemning human rights excesses.

“I’m sure this was the reason why they were in cahoots or clandestinely working against me. But who knew that this was a secret army that was going straight to [Mugabe]?”

While some within the party tried to shoot down her heroic antics, she insisted that she indeed gunned a helicopter during the war of liberation.

She showed remorse for her silence, though many question her sincerity, especially after she was booted out of the party.

“I’m being availed to some of the things that are even shocking. I am even asking myself, did these things happen during my days in government?”

Mujuru maintains she addressed her concerns on the issue. “It’s on record that I even addressed – and calling and asking who was giving orders for people go and maim and kill others.”

The opposition stateswoman further denied reports that his late husband, Solomon Mujuru left behind a fortune worth billions.

The estate is under contest in courts. During her recent visit to Europe, Mujuru sought audience with a white farmer dispossessed off the land she now owns.

“I want the world to know that since the departure of my husband, I have been hunting for the former owner of Alamein Farm.”
