Harare – Mike Gava – a Zanu PF parliamentarian had a high profile wedding in 2012 – Julius Malema was one of their guests – but in less than three years, they filed for divorce.
Their case was one of the 22 granted by the High Court as couples cited irreconcilable differences.By tinzwei.com
The wife, Tendai cited infidelity as a reason for divorce.
Initially 36, cases were filed – but these did not include divorce case not brought to the courts. And the latest surge has irked President Robert Mugabe.
“There are too many divorce cases. Can you explain why if you know the cause? When people decide to marry, they must stay together. Problems might exist…”
He laid the blame on men.
“I suppose the majority of cases, we men are responsible. We marry small houses far too often.”
Women falling for married men were not spared during the sermon. Some pastors were also castigated for fuelling abuse of girls.
“There are fake pastors who build nice houses and churches to attract congregates – but they are also abusing girls”
Prevailing socio-economic challenges have also been cited as fuelling divorce cases in the country.
