Harare – Allegations of rampant unprofessionalism and incompetence at ZiFM Stereo – a broadcast owned by government minister, Supa Mandiwanzira could spark an avalanche exodus.

Though relations are being spruced publicly, underneath is a station inside a ‘pressure cooker’ – according to media sources.

Trusted magnetic personalities like DJ Eskay, Candice Mwakalyelye, Sokostina, Zihlo – among others, are rumoured to be contemplating deserting, have already vacated the station – far away from the 'Madding Crowd' under the headship of untested Tendai Madondo.

“The truth is there is a monster at ZiFM Stereo and the rot is right at the top,” revealed a source contacted by the Chronicle.
Minister Supa Mandiwanzira's Radio Station is in the 'Pressure Cooker'

According to their website, ZiFM Stereo began broadcasting at 1200 hours on 15 August 2012. ZiFM Stereo is Zimbabwe’s first privately-owned radio station, based in Harare.

“ZiFM Stereo’s News has also been deemed the most credible and unbiased by the Media Monitoring Project of Zimbabwe and the Media Alliance of Zimbabwe,” the website added.

She was subsequently banished from the airwaves.

Veteran broadcaster, Susan Makore was praised for her conduct – while Madondo has been fingered at the centre of contention – accused of lacking media a background – and she was elevated into unfamiliar territory.

“When you have people who run a radio station like a bank or a post office and can’t handle media creative, that bureaucracy sinks people without a doubt…,” the source continued.

Named characters however dismissed the allegations. “I am not leaving immediately and people misconstrued what I said when I made my announcement,” one DJ said.

Mwakalyelye stated she was moving on to greener pastures after a four-year stint at the station. Madondo was unavailable to comment – while Makore responded coyly.

“We are always happy to respond to media professional who go out of their way to act professionally in their work and write from an informed perspective…”
