We have waited for 365 days to announce the ‘biggest’ winner for the crown of shame – Mampara of the Year, alongside the Celebrity of 2016 – and finally, here is the winner…

After extensive consultations, we compiled the Top 20 ‘misfiring’ celebrities who must transform their attitude promptly, for the good of their careers.

Below is the list of celebrities who hogged the limelight for all but the wrong reasons for the greater part of the year.

Mampara of the year
It was tough coming up with the eventual winner for the ‘big’ one but we had to settle for socialite and political activist, Acie Lumumba – real name William Gerald Mutumanje – deputised by Lady Squanda and Nox Guni.

With all the influence Lumumba had among the youths, the outspoken chap lost the plot following the leaking of his s.ex tape.
Acie Lumumba: 'Mampara of the Year'

In short, the s.ex tape left Lumumba with a battered image and bruised ego and it would take a miracle for him to win back the hearts of many. His so-called political career took a nose dive following that leak.

And when there were calls to go to wait outside the Harare Magistrates Criminal Courts to show solidarity during his court case after he insulted the President (which was another shameless vulgar act) – no one came through.

Lady Squanda
Disgraced dancehall chanter, Lady Squanda – real name Sandra Gazi – hogged the limelight for savaging blogger Skimbo and forcing him to leak her feet.

The video of Squanda beating up Skimbo went viral which saw the female chanter being dropped from the contingent which toured the United King for the Madirirano Tour, courtesy of Simbarashe ‘Bodyslam’ Chakare.

Although she apologised, it was all wrong for Squanda along with hired thugs who were convicted of the offence.

Nox Guni
South Africa based urban grooves star – Nox Guni – was in the news for all but the wrong reason in 2016. It appears he released more nudes than singles following his split with his girlfriend. He was attacked on social media and later issued an apology for his conduct and we hope he will change.

Dark horse(s)
A number of celebrities were vying for this title with the likes of rapper Stunner, Roki and Seh Calaz being favourites to peep Lumumba and his deputies for this gong of shame. However, it appears urban grooves star – Trevor Dongo – deserves this crown.

His marital woes that saw him being labelled a ‘love rat’ and of course that infamous street fight sum it all. It now appears the once ladies’ man has since lost the plot but there is still time for him to repent.

Repentance
Utakataka Express heir, Peter Moyo, might have endured a quiet year but the youngster tried to stay away from controversy. The budding sungura singer deserves this title for the most repented celebrity as he battled to shun the ‘hothead’ tag the media had given him.

The same goes for raunchy dancer Beverly Sibanda who appeared to have controversy running in her

Special mention
This goes to the good professor gone ‘copy and paste’ expert, Fred Zindi. It appears the seasoned music teacher, varsity lecturer and researcher is running out of steam to the extent of plagiarising his own works.

His recent confession that he bought a pirated copy of Oliver Mtukudzi’s 65th album at Samanyanga’s album launch was enough for the professor to soil his fertile resume.  A few weeks ago, he was at it again when he misinformed the public when he did the profile of Jah Cure after he implied that the reggae crooner (born in 1978) would sneak out to watch Bob Marley’s shows.

Marley died in 1981, implying that Jah Cure would watch the departed legend’s shows at the age of two or so which is unrealistic.

Celeb of the year
Without fear or favour, Jah Prayzah has and still the main man if we are to crown the deserving celeb who got it right.

His ground-breaking collaborations with the continent’s finest crooners comprising Diamond Platnumz and South African pop outfit Mafikizolo and gunning 1 million views on YouTube for his video ‘Watora Mari’ within a short space of time was enough to make him the celebrity of the year.

Back home, he continued to break records and it appears he is not stopping anytime soon. – H metro
