Pitso Mosimane will march on to an incredible personal record against Esperance in the CAF Champions League on Friday night as he prepares to oversee game number 200 of his tenure at Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mosimane took over at the Chloorkop giants on December 2, 2012, replacing Johan Neeskens almost immediately after the Brazilians were beaten by Bloemfontein Celtic in the 2012 Telkom KnockOut final.

Mosimane’s first game in charge was three days later, away at the Charles Mopeli Stadium against Free State Stars, where persistent rain delayed the start of his first game back in domestic football since May 20, 2007 when ‘Jingles’ oversaw SuperSport United’s season closer away to Moroka Swallows at Germiston Stadium.

On that wet surface at the venue in Phuthaditjhaba, Eleazar Rodgers gave Sundowns the lead in the first half, although that was cancelled out by Tebogo Langerman’s own goal in the second half as the game eventually finished 1-1.

The Brazilians remained second from bottom after that draw and eventually went on to finish that season [2012-13] in 10th on the league table. Since then, domestically, the 52-year-old has delivered the ABSA Premiership title twice, while also winning the Nedbank Cup and Telkom Knockout titles.

Arguably most notably, though, is the fact Mosimane has also added the colossal CAF Champions League and CAF Super Cup crowns to the cabinet at Chloorkop – a grand reward to the faith that club owner Patrice Motsepe has shown in the coach, even through the rough spell that Mosimane endured during his early days when some fans called for his sacking.

Mosimane has also been the PSL Coach of the Year in both of the seasons that he has lifted the league title. The former Bafana Bafana tactician is now the longest-serving coach in charge of the same PSL club and also the longest serving head coach ever at Sundowns in the club’s history, stretching back all the way to 1970.

Mosimane is also the only coach to ever last over two years in charge since Motsepe took ownership of the club in 2004. He has also taken Sundowns to the FIFA Club World Cup.

Pitso Mosimane's Sundowns match log:

2016-17 – 54 games to date
2015-16 – 46 games
2014-15 – 43 games
2013-14 – 35 games
2012-13 – 21 games*

*First game in charge starting December 5, 2012 - Kickoff
