Joseph Molangoane and Steve Komphela are working on achieving a common goal – winning trophies in the upcoming PSL season.

Neither have won any silverware in their current careers but both are determined to help one another rectify that by bringing some silverware to Kaizer Chiefs this season and breaking the club’s two-year trophy drought.

Although Komphela won trophies with Amakhosi as a player, he has not won a single trophy since he started coaching in 2002. And Molangoane, who made his PSL debut with Platinum Stars in the 2009-10 season, hopes Lady Luck will smile on Amakhosi this time around.
Pressure Mounts for Khompela

Said Molangoane: “I have never won a gold medal in my career, so clearly I have to work twice as hard to help the team win trophies. I would love to get the winners’ medal or a hold of any trophy to celebrate with our fans. I want to experience what it’s like to bring my club success.

“It is a new season and things can change. We have a good team, we were just unfortunate last season. We lost games we should have won. I think we have learned from the mistakes we committed,” he added.

Molangoane emphasised the importance of overcoming fellow Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates in the Carling Black Label Champion Cup at FNB Stadium on Saturday (3.30pm) to break the ice before the start of season.

He went on: “I will be competing in the Carling Cup for the first time. Winning it would certainly give us a boost going forward. When we get opportunities we must convert them, then everything will go according to our plan.”

The 29-year-old said they would do whatever it takes to ease the pressure on Komphela and ensure his third season with Amakhosi was his most memorable.

“Expectations are high at Chiefs, we all have pressure. We cannot blame the coach for our failure to win anything last season.

“Collectively we have to deliver for the brand. Everyone is hungry for success. If we work together we can bring trophies to Naturena.” - Daily Sun
