Every day, more than 200 women and children gather at the bottom of these mountains, the aim is to fetch big stones in the mountain, that they go down to break and transform into gravel.

A gravel resold and the money earned is used to take care of their families, this in a city where the poverty rate is close to 30 percent.

In Maroua, the capital of the Far North region of Cameroon, poverty affects more than 20% of the population.
Poverty Levels in Cameroon are High

For the most populous region of Cameroon struck by the drought and the war against Boko Haram, many men here have no jobs.

Their women decided to take matters into their own hands by going in search of daily bread. The latter accompanied by their children chose to crush the stones that they transform into gravel.

It is on these mountains which surround the city, and at the peril of their lives, without protection, that they choose to come to supply themselves with large stones. - Online Sources
