Johannesburg - Steve Komphela's tenure at the Naturena may soon come to a disastrous conclusion - after Amakhosi suffered another humiliating defeat at the hands of SuperSport United at FNB Stadium.

The loss, means Kaizer Chiefs remain winless in the Absa Premiership this season, with only a point garnered from their opening match.

Just like Chelsea in the English Premier League, Chiefs were reduced to 10 men after seven minutes when Eric Mathoho was shown a straight red card for bringing down Bradley Grobler.

SuperSport made the numbers advantage count and broke the deadlock in the 13th minute when Aubrey Modiba headed home from close range, after some impressive build up play.

The hosts suffered another blow after 24 minutes when Tsepo Masilela was forced off with an injury after a collision with Brilliant Khuzwayo.

Chiefs still enjoyed most of the possession despite the numerical disadvantage, and they had a chance in the 39th minute when Bernard Parker cut inside before firing wide from inside the box.

SuperSport doubled their advantage on the stroke of halftime when Teboho Mokoena's fine pass found Grobler, who fired past Khuzwayo from the edge of the box.

With the numbers in SuperSport's favour, Tinkler introduced Jeremy Brockie for Dove Wome at the start of the second half.

Chiefs continued to search for their first goal but they were finding it tough to create openings, which prompted Komphela to introduce Wiliam Twala.

The hosts were eventually rewarded for their perseverance when Siphiwe Tshabalala's knockdown found Gustavo Paez, who volleyed home from close range in the 65th minute.

With Chiefs seeing most of the ball, Tinkler opted withdraw Grobler and introduced midfielder, Cole Alexander.

Komphela's charges continued to push for an equalising goal in the closing stages, but they were unable to carve out another clear-cut chance as SuperSport held on for the win.
