World Cup: Komphela Suspects Stuart Baxter has Shabba Plan for Bafana

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says Bafana Bafana boss Stuart Baxter knows exactly what he will get from veteran attacker Siphiwe Tshabalala.

Baxter has recalled Amakhosi midfielder Tshabalala for the must-win back-to-back World Cup qualifiers with Senegal next month.

The Brit previously worked with the 33-year-old during his time in charge of Chiefs from 2012 to 2015.

'Shabba', who has 88 caps and was last called up for a friendly with Brazil in March 2014, has been in fine form of late. He reiterated his value with a goal in the 3-0 victory over AmaZulu in the Telkom Knockout this past weekend.

“Shabba, I’m not qualified to make a comment. One thing I can say is that he’s worked with Stuart and Stuart is very smart,” said Komphela.

“Stuart knows exactly what he wants and I’m sure if he didn’t know what he was going to use Shabba for he wouldn’t have called him up.

“But one thing that I’m going to say and also thank Stuart on behalf of Shabba, is when he said Shabba was one of the most influential players in the PSL

“If Stuart says that and coach Cavin Johnson says Shabba was a threat today [on Saturday], and... I don’t normally go through reviews and check what is said about us professionals.

“For whatever reasons I got interested in Shabba; there has been great positive feedback from South Africa in general, and that talks to the quality of the man.

“In terms of personality, character, is he national material? Yes. International material? Go ask Mexico.”

Bafana will assemble on Sunday and travel to Polokwane the next day to set up camp for the first Group D game with the Teranga Lions at Peter Mokaba Stadium on November 10 (19h00).

The rematch is four days later in Dakar at Stade Leopold Sedar Senghor (21h30). - Kick Off
